Happy New Year Charlie Brown

Happy New Year, Charlie Brown. I never heard of this before, but tonight on ABC it is being shown. I looked it up on the internet and found that it originally aired on CBS on January 1, 1986.
Ok in 1986 I was in my early 20's so I really wasn't into watching animated specials.
Maybe that's why I never heard of it before.

My 2009 Goals

I like to use the word Goals instead of the dreaded word resolution because I have always felt when the word resolution is used, people look for failure. The word goal in my perspective means I have a vision, a task to complete and if there are stumbling blocks along the way at least I tried the best I could to accomplish a goal.
That’s my perspective and I am sticking to it.

My 2009 Goals are:
1) Organize my basement and garage which will mean, trashing or donating anything that doesn’t sell in the 2 garage sales that I will be participating in in 2009. So from now until the 1st garage sale I need to focus on organizing these 2 areas.

2) I receive the Love Dare book that was featured in the movie Fireproof. I am going to use the book as a strengthening tool, not only in my marriage but in my everyday life. It’s a 40 day diary; I know right now I will not be able to continually due this on a daily basis. But I will do what is required for each of the 40 days. I will read the tasks that will need to be done, I will set my own “goal” for that task then I will post on my blog/here what the task is and then when my task is complete, I will post my outcome.

3) I would like to continue a card a week like I did this past year. This seemed to work out really well and it kept me on track for creating cards for my stamp camp. I have a few websites and blogs that have card challenges; so I will use them for inspiration.

4) I heard a quote last week: “A smaller behind in 2009” need I say more? I think everyone makes this goal, and I will yet again set this goal for myself. Oh BTW the quote was taken from the one and only Richard Simmons. lol

5) This past year I tried to post a layout a week. Well I didn’t quite accomplish this goal.
I am going to try something a little different. Journaling, I have older layouts that I have yet to journal. My goal is to post layouts old and/or new and journal these layouts.

6) Most importantly, have more conversations with GOD more often. Don’t get me wrong, I pray but there are times I forget that he is right there just waiting for me to talk to. He is our best friend and we need to remember that we can talk to him at anytime about anything.

Card 51 of 52

I have been anxious to use this Upsy Daisy set since I purchased it about a month ago and haven't had time to work on anything with it. Made this to sell at the restaurant and will probably make it in a future stamp camp.

I Need Peppermint

I think I should go hit every store and buy all the candy canes on clearence until I can get my gallbladder looked at. See the article below.
(Picture taken from the article also)

Candy Canes Fight Germs, Settle Stomachs- Jennifer Viegas, Discovery News

A New Use for an Old Favorite-Discovery News
Dec. 24, 2008 -- New studies on peppermint, the key flavoring in traditional candy canes, reveal the herb may do everything from kill germs to treat digestive troubles.
Some researchers now advise consumers to eat a tablespoon or more of fresh peppermint, and other green herbs, daily.
Peppermint oil, found in most candy canes, also appears to have health benefits. A recent British Medical Journal study, led by McMaster University researcher Alex Ford, concludes that peppermint oil should be the first line of defense against irritable bowel syndrome, a condition characterized by abdominal pain and irregular bowels that affects between 5 to 20 percent of the population.
Peppermint oil, and other potent essential oils, may even one day be wafted in their vapor form over food to prevent the growth of bacteria.

Card 50 of 52

Here is something I came up with this morning.
I used the Stampin' pastels with the blending pen but found the paper was being eaten away by the blender pen. I think the flower was too large to use a blender pen. If I decide to have my campers make this card; we will use colored pencils.

What is happening?

What is happening? I am having a sense of being overwhelmed by uncontrollable medical events that are happening all around me.

#1) About 8 months ago my BIL was diagnosed with cancer. We found out just a few short weeks ago that it has spread to his stomach. He is currently very weak as the doctors try and decide what the heck they are going to do. This is where the frustration is, why don't doctors ever think ahead, why don't they ever come up with a backup plan so if plan A doesn't work they can immediately try plan B, why do they keep patients waiting, don't' they realize cancer spreads and the longer they take to decide what they can do the cancer continues to grow? Do doctors have any compassion? No, I forgot that they are doctors and are trained to have no feelings.

#2) We found out Ethan has to have all his wisdom teeth pulled. Jordan had his done in August right before school started and now it is Ethan's turn. We are trying to schedule the surgery before he returns to College in a few short weeks. Again, we are waiting for the doctor to let us know when this can be scheduled. We also found out that 1 of the teeth will have to be broken in 1/2 before it can be removed. This sounds very painful. So here we sit and wait.

#3) Todd also is having dental problems. He supposedly has a bad infection under a crown that supposedly had a root canal. He was told that he needs to go to a specialist to have this tooth worked on. I am putting all of this in Todd's hands to control and schedule. I told him if he needs me to be a taxi driver for him I will do that but otherwise he is on his own on this one.

#4) I am about 90% sure I am going to have to have my gallbladder removed. I will just have to get confirmation from yet again a "Doctor". I have been suffering for about 6 months now with abdomen pain. Within the last 2 months, the abdominal pain has moved to the right upper chest and my back. My mother and both my sisters have had their gallbladder removed so I looked up gallbladder pain on the web and everything described is what I seem to be dealing with. At this point I am going to watch my diet and try and wait until after the New Year to get this checked out. If it does end up being my gallbladder and I end up needing surgery, I am going to try and hold out on the surgery until after Ethan's oral surgery.

Thank goodness Jordan is doing well....

2009 sure does look like it isn't going to start out to well medically.

I do have one request, if you read this, could you please say a prayer for my Brother in Law Scotte? Thanks!

Our Christmas Highlights

I saw this this morning before we opened gifts and thought it would make a pretty picture.

He also got Guitar Hero World Tour, I will have to get a picture of him and me playing and post it here.

Volume 3 for his collection

Look what I got! Yeah finally don't have to use my Shuffle anymore and I can coordinate all my workout songs by treadmill, elliptical and stationary bike.

Merry Christmas

I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

Scrooge

One of Todd's favorite holiday movies is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens; I think he has watched every version that he could this year since Thanksgiving.
I promised him that on Christmas Eve I would watch the Alastair Sim version of Scrooge. (aka A Christmas Carol)

So here we sit practically in the dark with the only light coming from the Christmas Tree, Todd sips his Egg Nog and I a Cranberry and Absolute watching the 1951 black and white version of Scrooge.(aka A Christmas Carol)

My Christmas Eve

It's Christmas Eve and Todd and I both have to work today.
Hey not complaining here at all. With the economy the way it is, we are both thankful that we have jobs.
Our plans today is that once I get off of work I have to stop at the store; my list consists of Milk, Instant Vanilla Pudding, 1 cup chopped Nuts, 1 Green Pepper.
I was given a friendship bread on the 16th that I have been kneading everyday and the last day to finish this bread is tomorrow Christmas day, so I will be baking a loaf of bread on Christmas Day. (The vanilla pudding and nuts are for the bread. The Milk is because we need it and the Green Pepper is for the Stir Fry tonight)
Tonight our plans are making a Shrimp Stir Fry for dinner and settling in to watch A Christmas Carol starring Alastair Sim.
Have a Merry Christmas Eve and I will post a Christmas Greeting to all tomorrow!

Cold Working Child

For the past 2 days Ethan has had to work outside in this COLD weather.
He has so many layers on I'm amazed he can move. Yesterday as well as now I keep looking at the clock thinking he only has "X" amount of hours left.
Hopefully he can go inside and warm up when needed.

Card 48 of 52

I had time tonight to make a Christmas Card. The card actually has glitter on it but my scanner didn't scan that too well.

Snow Storm

We were hit last night with a snow storm, not as bad as what the weatherman thought but still hit.
I got up at 4:21am this morning not by the alarm, but by the sound of a truck backing up. Assuming it was a snowplow, I got up looked out the window and thought I better get ready to go.
Todd is off today so he was a dear, got up shoveled a path for me and cleaned my car off. I left at 5:15am on my own and made it safely to work at 5:50am. Not bad. There was hardly anyone on the road and the few that were, were driving safely. (Not like those IDIOTS that feel they need to weave though traffic) When I left it was an ice storm. That was supposed to stop after 2 hours and then snow until around noon.
Hopefully the drive home at 3:00pm will be decent.
Oh and the good news for the kids was that the school decided to use a Snow Day so they got to start their winter break a day earlier!

1 more batch to make

I had my annual Cookie Exchange on Sunday and exchanged some wonderful cookies with family and friends. Tonight I made and will add to these cookies one of Todds favorites; Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies; it's the cookie with the Hershey Kiss in the middle. I now have 1 more type of cookie to make before Christmas next Thursday. Ethan requested the Hershey Kissable snowball cookies. It's a snowball cookie with Hershey kissables inside the snowball. I made them for the 1st time last year and he requested I make them again this year. Jordan didn't request any cookies this year and as for myself, I'm not really craving any certain type of cookie this year. I just can't wait to try the ones I received at the exchange.

COOKIES

Tonight I made 1 of the 2 cookies that I will be making for my annual cookie exchange.
I have hosted this cookie exchange for I think over 13 years now. I love doing it because all you have to do is make 1 type of cookie, granted you may have to make a couple of batches of the cookie but in return you get a variety of different yummy cookies. I also am gratefull that I have dedicate friends and family whom are willing to participate every year.

So now only 1 more batch of a different cookie to make and I will be ready for the cookie exchange.

Ahhh Christmas cookies!

Mixed Emotions

Today the company I work for did a coporate wide layoff, 4 people in the department I work in were let go. I am having mixed emotions regarding the layoffs, I feel sad for the ones that were let go; but glad it wasn't me. (See mixed emotions)
A few of the people I felt deserved to be let go but others didn't. (See mixed emotions)
No time is a good time for a lay-off and their explanation as to why the layoffs happened before that holiday was very lame.

I know what can happen financially, emotionally and mentally when a bread winner is left go from their job, I pray that they find employment again and that they are able to cope during this time in their lives.

Holiday Affair

As I once posted in an earlier blog post, I love watching old movies on a Sunday morning, a few days ago we DVR'ed Holiday Affair off of TMC, this movie was released in 1949 and stars Janet Leigh and Robert Mitchum.

Description copied from IMDB: Just before Christmas, department store clerk Steve Mason meets big spending customer Connie Ennis, really a commercial spy. He unmasks her but lets her go, which gets him fired. They end up on a date, which doesn't sit well with Connie's steady suitor, Carl, but delights her son Timmy, who doesn't want Carl for a step-dad.

Elf

Tonight we watched on DVD one of my Favorite Christmas movies, ELF.
The humor in the movie is so much fun and I love how they make everything at the North Pole either Oversized or too Small depending on the scene. Will Farrell pulls off the innocences of an elf in a world he is not familiar with so well.

Elf tells the tale of a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts on Christmas Eve and is transported back to the North Pole and raised as an elf. Years later Buddy learns he is not really an elf and goes on a journey to New York City to find his true identity.(Discription taken from Amazon.com)

Card ? of ?

I haven't been doing much stamping lately, well that's not totally true.
I have but it is the same card over and over again. Our family Christmas card.
I put off working on them and now it is just about time to send them out.
The last card I left off on is card 47 of 52. So that would mean I have 5 cards to make by the end of the year. Can I do it, yeah I think I can.
Beate, who's blog I do a weekly card challenge, has taken a break over the holidays. I know of 3 other websites that do challenges. One is a color challenge and the other 2 are sketch challenges. I will have to go check these out and get 5 more done by December 31st.
Kind of lame that I need a challenge to motivate me to make cards, but whatever works I guess.

ABC Christmas-Shrek the Halls & How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Tonight ABC showed 2 holiday specials, Shrek the Halls and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Todd, Jordan and I watched both specials.
Shrek the Halls: Shrek wants the perfect christmas for him and his family but he has no clue how to do it. He buys a book on how to do christmas perfectly and everything is going well, until donkey and gang decide to intrude. (Plot discription taken from IMDB)

How the Grinch Stole Christmas: Bitter and hateful, the Grinch is irritated at the thought of the nearby village having a happy time celebrating Christmas. So disguised as Santa Claus, with his dog made to look like a reindeer, raids the village to steal all the Christmas items. (Plot discription taken from IMDB)

1st Snowfall of this season

We had snow fall yesterday but it really didn't accumulate to that much snow, but this morning we woke up; looked out the window and saw that we got approx 6" of snow(according to the radio)
When I let the dog out this morning we had a HUGE branch laying in our backyard that fell from the tree sometime during the night. Thank goodness the branch didn't hit or knock down any of the wires back there or our house. We had just enough time this morning to shovel a path to our car, clean the cars off and then drive carefully to work. I was worried about both boys getting to their destinations this morning; more for Jordan because this is his 1st year driving in the snow. Both ended up being carefull and safe.
No pics of this snow storm; but I am sure there will be more coming.

What's Christmas without...

Andy Williams?
I found some older and current Andy Williams Christmas Specials on You Tube that I spent part of the afternoon watching.
Memories come back to me from my childhood watching these variety type of Christmas Specials. It's too bad that the "variety" type shows are now considered corny and that younger people today don't have the memories of these shows that we have.

Miracle on 34th Street

One of my favorite things to do is watch old movies on a Sunday morning. I don't get to do it too often but this morning I did. I watched Miracle on 34th Street the 1947 black and white version with Edmund Gwenn as Kris Kringle.
When a nice old man who claims to be Santa Claus is institutionalized as insane, a young lawyer decides to defend him by arguing in court that he is the real thing. (description taken from IMDB)
This is one of my favorite versions of the movie, I love the feel of the Black and White version another version of this movie that I like but haven't seen in quite awhile is the 1973 tv version starring Sebastian Cabot.

Irving Berlin's White Christmas

Tonight we watched White Christmas on Lifetime unfortunately we had to sit through commercials.
The story is about a successful song-and-dance team that become romantically involved with a sister act and team up to save the failing Vermont inn of their former commanding general. (discription from IMDB)
An enjoyable classic Christmas movie.

Our Christmas Tree Fell

We put the Christmas tree up last night with the lights and today we dressed it up with the ornaments. This year we have to put the tree in the corner of the livingroom because of where our turtle is located. Anyway after we had all the ornaments on the tree, Todd laid on the floor scooted under the tree to slide the tree closer to the corner of the room. SNAP, one of the legs on the stand snapped right off. The tree fell thank goodness toward the wall; only 6 ornaments fell off and none broke.
We had an old tree stand from when we had a 9 foot Christmas tree, so as Jordan and I held the tree up Todd scooted under the tree and the 3 of us lifted the tree off the old stand and onto the other stand. So now our tree is in position sitting in a nice BIG sturdy stand.

No Shopping For Me

If anyone knows me they know I hate to shop, so I have no problem working the day after Thanksgiving. I get quite a lot done at work the day after the holiday because it is nice and quiet, hardly anyone is there to cause distractions and no phones ringing.

Christmas to the Extreme

Last night I watched the Christmas to the Extreme special on the Travel Channel
The show started out featuring the Bronner Christmas Wonderland in Frankenmuth Mich. which I thought was kind of cool because my friend Dawn and her mom make trips to this amazing Christmas wonderland quite often so it was nice to see what it actually looked like on TV.
They featured other extravagant Christmas displays and events throughout the United States. The show was nice to watch to start the Holiday kick off.

Jeff Dunham's very special Christmas Special

I purchased this DVD to give as a gift but about a week ago Comedy Central played part of the special on TV, so I ended up just telling the family I purchased it since they ended up watching it when it 1st broadcasted on Comedy Central. The DVD has more on it then what was broadcasted on TV; plus no commercails!!!
Anyway while we were relaxing after a nice Thankgiving day we watched the Jeff Dunham's very special Christmas Special.
Each character is so unique with great set designs to fit each characters personality. I love when guitar guy comes out and Jeff makes him laugh and in doing this Jeff loses it also.
This is a real funny standup holiday special.

My Blog is Holiday Ready

My blog is decorated for the Christmas holiday enjoy!!!

Music on my blog!!!

Thanks to my sister, I now have music on my blog. She told me how to do it and I was able to figure it out.

Card 47 of 52

I purchased this Sock Monkey stamp set thinking it would be fun to work with.
I have yet to make anything or find any ideas from other stampers that I like with this stamp set it, including this card below.
I made it for the weekend card challenge that I participate in. My inspiration was Ethan's b-day tomorrow.

My Christmas Mission

I am on a mission for my own personal gratification.
I am planning on trying to watch as many Christmas movies and Christmas specials that I can between Thanksgiving and New Years Eve.
I will check TMC, our DVD liabrary, that website that lets you watch movies for Free, the TV listing, ect.
Todd asked if I had a plan, only 1 that I watch the Alister Sims A Christmas Carol on Christmas eve after dinner sometime when its real dark outside.
I will start posting on my blog what movies I have watched and a little review with my opinion of the movie.
Check my blog off and on to see how I am doing.
I am hoping my mission is successful!!!

Another Christmas Card Stamp Camp Has Passed

Last night I hosted my 6th Christmas Card Stamp Camp; the 5th camp in which the attendees go from station to station to make their cards. I had a fantastic turnout and just about everyone who attended knew the routine of the camp and it seemed to go very smooth. I appreciate those who helped one another out when I was preoccupied.
I think we finally got to bed at midnight and if you can believe it we were up at 6:30am. I guess my body is just used to getting up early for work everyday. Anyway when I woke, I realised that I didn't take any pictures of the stampers last night to post here. UGH!

Now that the Christmas Card Camp is over I can focus on making our family Christmas card and get ready for my annual Christmas Cookie Exchange.

There is always something to keep me busy which I am grateful for.

Annual Christmas Card Camp

Today I took the day off of work to get ready for my annual Christmas Card Stamp Camp
I started the day out by going to the gym to work out, went and got a haircut, went to the store to get all the snack supplies for tomorrow, worked on getting laundry done, then started cleaning.
The men are going to go see a movie tonight so I can scrub down the bathroom, wash the kitchen floor and make cookies and the dips for tomorrow.
I believe my stampers look forward to this camp every year. They seem to have fun and I certainly enjoy having them come. I am expecting 14 stampers tomorrow night with 2 of them being new to my camp.

232

This sort of goes with my last blog post but not really:

232 years is how long it took America to elect an African American as President.

Mind boggling.

History

We have been so fortunate to witness history being made quite a few times this past year.
Last night and again on January 20, 2009 we will witness History once again.

Side note: If McCain/Palin would have won, I would have posted the same post but with a picture of Sarah Palin instead because history would have been made if she became our 1st female vice president.

New Background

Now that Halloween is over, I needed to change my background.
I wanted a Thanksgiving themed but what the wedsite I used has wasn't really to my liking. I chose one of the Autumn backgrounds they had.

Happy Halloween

Today is one of my favorite holiday's
The goblins should be trick or treating in about 10 minutes. After curfew Todd and I will be going to Raelynn & Gary's to play cards.
And it isn't Halloween without this:

Work is Getting Crazy

Almost a month ago my supervisor and her boss took me into the conference room and asked me if I would still be interested in learning Imports. They explained to me that I would be trained for about 4 weeks and then used if the Imports department were to get overwhelmed with work or help out during vacations taken.
On Wednesday I asked if this was my last week of training, I was told no with no explanation. Yesterday my supervisor took me off to the side and discussed what may possibly be happening in the near future. I will be trained in Imports for 2 more weeks by another person in the department; then when those 2 weeks are over I will work the Import orders on my own for 1 month. The 2 Import operators will at this point work domestic orders. I then asked if they were planning on swapping us and was told that would all depend on how well I do in Imports.
My theory is that if I am able to do Imports on my own, they will take the 2 current Import operators and move them to domestics where they are short handed. This way domestics will not have to hire anyone.
I feel slightly honored that I was asked to cross train, but I also feel that if I am going to take the job that 2 people did that I should expect to be compensated. If this happens; I am planning on asking for this to be considered a promotion and will expect an increase in pay.

Winterize

This weekend Todd and I decided we were going to do some winterizing around the house.
Today we took out all our sweatshirts and jeans from the Space Bags and loaded them back up with our shorts and other summer type clothing.
Then we went outside and I dumped all my potted plants and put the pots in storage while Todd drained all the garden hoses coiled them up and put them in storage.
Tomorrow we plan on putting all the lawn furniture away, putting the grill away, making sure all the storm windows are closed and pulling out the Christmas lights to test to see if they will be ready for hanging in a few weeks. Yes you read that correctly Christmas Lights. We always put our lights up the weekend after Halloween while it's still a little warm out. Then all we have to do is connect an extention cord when we are ready to light them closer to the holiday of course.
Todd isn't ready to winterize his Harley yet. He said he went riding around Thanksgiving last year and he is hoping that he will be able to get a few more rides in before he gets it ready for storage.

Nightmare Before Christmas 3D & Monster House

This afternoon Ethan and his friend Jerry went to go see Nightmare Before Christmas
3D at the cheap theatre. He hasn't had time with school and work to hang out much with Jerry. Ethan had seen the movie before and said it was pretty good in 3D.

Then awhile back we purchased Monster House on dvd but never really took the time to watch it. So with Halloween coming up this week; Jordan, Todd and I watched the movie tonight. I didn't think it was going to be that good but was surprised; it was a pretty good movie.
