Card 39 of 52 for 2009

This is the card we will be making at the September Stamp Camp. I did forget to add one thing to this card after I had it all assembled. That's ok though my stampers will be able to add in my mistake when they make the card. I got this I idea from Danielle Lounds, thanks Danielle.

The color of the hippo looks a little off, it didn't scan too well, it looks quite better in person.

Lumpy Update 8/28

Well I had my ultrasound this afternoon and they seemed to spend more time on the side that didn't have the lump then the side that did. I was told that I would hear from the doctor by Tuesday with the results.
About 10 minutes ago I got off the phone with the doctor. He said that I had many nodules (lumps) and they want to do a biopsy on the larger one, I needed to call the radiology department today and set up an appointment and if they weren't open to call them on Monday. I called and had to leave a message for them to call me back.
He said if it was cancer they will remove the nodule and if it's not, they will keep the lump there and just do ultrasounds on it regularly to monitor it.
Nothing of this is shocking to me or I wasn't prepared for. The minute I found out I had the lump I researched it on the internet. Still confident that it isn't anything major. Even if it turns out to be cancer, once it is removed everything usually is ok. It is very rear for people to die from thyroid cancer.
More updates after biopsy is completed.

My Son the Senior

My Baby Boy is a Senior in High School this year.
I think it is a tradition or something for the Seniors to wear these shirts on Fridays

See the '10 on the back of the shirt proves he is a Senior.

Freaky, Spooky & Weird

Last night our neighbor treated us to dinner to thank us for the care we provided to her husband.
I was the last one to leave the house, you know lock the door and such.
When we arrived home, I heard the dog barking from one of the kids bedroom and announced "The dog is stuck in someones room" then we all noticed through the window that we left the TV on. I thought that was rather odd because I was the last one to leave and I thought I turned everything off. As Todd was about to unlock the door, we noticed that the TV turned off.
OK very strange. We walked in and looked around to see if anything was missing and everything was fine. The dog was still stuck in my sons bedroom and I thought where is the remote thinking that maybe something was sitting on the remote making the TV turn on and off. Nope, the remote was sitting on the coffee table with nothing near it. We all decided it must have been Denny (the husband of the neighbor who took us out for dinner) acknowledging that Sandy treated us to a lovely dinner. At that point we all said Thank You to Denny.

REALLY FREAKY!!! We all saw it happen so it wasn't a one person thing.

Lumpy Update 08/25 & 08/27

I saw the doctor today regarding my lump. He drew blood and said they will do a thorough test on the thyroid. I have a 2nd ultrasound scheduled on Friday; I should know more by next week. Not too worried, only 5% of the time it's cancer.
08/27 update:
Blood work came back ok. Tyroid is functioning fine. That is good news. But a women always wishes she has thyroid problems to blame on that extra weight she carries. lol
Now Ultrasound tomorrow to see what the lump looks like and determain if it is cancer or not.

Are these still available anywhere?

Tonight my son Jordan was eating popcorn for a snack and I blurted out: "I have a taste for a Zinger." Todd chimed in and said "ohhhhhh I have only had a few of those in my life and that would be so good". He liked the chocolate one.

But I said I had a taste for the Raspberry one with the coconut on top

I did do a Google search on them and I think Hostess is now making them.
Check out the box below and the price for 12 cakes, I wish! LOL Love the characters chosen to promote Zingers!

Card 37 of 52 for 2009

I am starting to get some Fall/Halloween cards ready to sell at the restaurant.
Here is one I put together on a whim, it was really fun to assemble. This Scary Skeleton set also has a small scary cat face that I stamped on the inside.
I haven't decided if we will be making this at the October Stamp Camp yet. We will see what other things I come up with or stamp-lift 1st. LOL

Call Me Lumpy

Yesterday our company offered a Stroke and Thyroid screening. Every time we have these type of events at work, my co-worker Anna always wants to participate in them. For $30.00 they check your Thyroid (no, not if it's active or inactive) and check to see if you are in danger of having a stroke.
What they do is an ultrasound on both sides of your neck and make sure everything looks ok. My stroke results came out perfect. My left thyroid looked fine, as for my right thyroid well I have a lump that measures 14x27mm. The ultrasound tech said it wasn't that big but I needed to go to my doctor and have it checked out.
I am not too worried about this because I remember about 5-6 years ago my gynecologist said he felt something there and to have my family physician check it out. Well my family physician said the my gyno was crazy, that he didn't feel anything. I know I have had this for quite awhile and I'm still doing fine.
Since then I have researched this "lump" and have talked to quite a few people who say they had the same thing. I will have quite a few questions regarding this when I see the doctor in about a week.
I have been joking about this with co-workers and at home. I show my ultrasound picture of the lump and ask people if they would like to see my baby and any mishaps or mistakes I make, I am blaming it on the thyroid lump.
I gotta have some fun with it until I know what it is and what will be done.

Card 36 of 52 for 2009

I made this purse gift card holder for my sister that we gave her for her birthday. She is going to Disney and we got her a gift card to spend there.
I got this idea from the talented Dawn Griffith. We will be making something similar to this at the September Stamp Camp!

Iced Coffee

I like coffee, not so much I am a Starbucks junkie or anything like that. Restaurant coffees are my favorite, how they can brew a pot of coffee better then I can at home is beyond me. (I personally think it's their brewing system)
One of my other favorites are flavored iced coffee, I especially like Dunkin Donuts Coolatta's so yummy and worth every calorie.
About two weeks ago our local grocery store had the 16 oz Nestles liquid Coffee-Mate on sale for a buck, we purchased Caramel Vanilla. I decided I was going to try and make my own Iced Coffee, the next time we made a pot of coffee I filled a travel mug to the rim with ice, added coffee 3/4 of the way filled and then topped it off with the Coffee-Mate Vanilla Caramel; stirred it and drank.
OMG it was so good!

I went to the Nestle website to look up Coffee Mate and their flavors and this is what I found:

Amaretto
Belgian Chocolate Toffee
Chocolate Raspberry
Cinnamon Bun
Cinnamon Vanilla Crème
Coconut Crème
Crème Brulée
Fat Free Cinnamon Vanilla Crème
Fat Free French Vanilla
Fat Free Hazelnut
Fat Free Vanilla Caramel
French Vanilla
Hazelnut Biscotti
Hazelnut
Irish Crème
Italian Sweet Crème
Parisian Almond Crème
Sugar Free French Vanilla
Sugar Free Hazelnut
Sugar Free Vanilla Caramel
Tiramisu
Toffee Nut
Vanilla Caramel
Vanilla Chai Spice
Vanilla Nut

Can't wait to start hunting for some of these flavors at the store.
(Ok Nestle you can send me a coupon for a free Coffee Mate whenever your ready LOL)

Pickles 8/12/09

I got a kick out of the Pickles comic today. This is similar to Todd and I at night. If he falls asleep before I do, I can't get to sleep because of his snoring. But if I fall asleep 1st he can snore all he wants cause won't hear him. So Opal's last comment is how I feel sometimes. Click on comic to view larger.

Milestone

Today I celebrate a milestone.
I have officially been married as long as I have been single.
Todd and I celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary today.
This picture was taken last night by Jordan before we left for our "date"

Bon Appetit

Last night Todd and I had an Anniversary date night.
We drove out to Elk Grove Village and went to our favorite restaurant; Tapalpa.

Tapalpa Restaurant was established in 1992 by Judi and Abraham Aguilar. It's named after the town of Tapalpa Jalisco. Located in the Sierra Mountains, an hour and a half ride from Guadalajara. One of the most beautiful towns in Mexico. The restaurant is the BEST Mexican food I have ever eaten and their Margarita's are to die for. After you have your meal they give you a shot of a liqueur that is like a dessert. I asked what it was and they told me its a mixture of Butterscotch Schnapps and Irish Cream with whipped cream on top. OMG you don't need dessert when you have that.
After dinner we stopped home so I could drop off my left overs (lunch today!) and went to go see Julie & Julia.

Part of the Plot courtesy of IMBD the rest mine: The movie follows Julia and Paul Child through Julia Child's memoir, MY LIFE IN FRANCE, which she wrote with her grand nephew Alex Prude. It parallels the life of Julie Powell and her struggle to find herself. In this adventure Julie Powell learns that her life and Julia Child's life has many similarities.
It is utterly amazing how much Meryl Streep turned into Julia Child. She is an amazing actress.
This was a great Anniversary date. Good food, good entertainment.
Bon Appetit.

80's Teen Flick Director

John Hughes the director of the teen movies from the 80's passed away today.
Being in my late teens and early 20's in the 80's I really enjoyed the majority of his movies.
"Breakfast Club," "National Lampoon's Vacation," "Pretty in Pink," "Planes, Trains & Automobiles," "Sixteen Candles," "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "Uncle Buck."
His movies will be enjoyed for years to come.

Follow up appt. with the Gastroenterologist

This afternoon I had my follow-up appt with the Gastroenterologist.
I am feeling a lot better then I did before I had the EGD - esophagogastroduodenoscopy. I have to continue to stay on medication twice a day for 4 months and then cut down to once a day for a month after that. I will have to go back and see the Gastroenterologist again in 5 month, just to make sure everything is ok.
I am so glad that my pain is now under control and everything will heal as time goes by.

Miss Potter

A while back Amazon had a DVD blowout so Todd picked 2 DVD's and I picked 2 DVD's, last night we had nothing planned so I picked one of the movies that I chose to watch last night, Miss Potter. I am not a huge fan of Renee Zellweger but I do like her choice in movies that she does appear in.
Plot (Courtesy of IMDB): Thirty years old and single, Beatrix Potter lives in London with her social-climbing parents, who are exasperated that she has turned down any number of eligible young men. Her only real friends are the animals which since childhood she has lovingly drawn and made up stories about. She finally succeeds in selling a book of the stories, and it becomes Norman Warne's first project. He quickly falls in love with both the book and Beatrix and together they carefully arrange publication. This proves the first of many successes, offering her the possibility of escaping from both her parents' way of life and London.

I love period movies and really enjoyed this one. I really didn't know much about Beatrix Potters life and this movie gave a little glimpse of it.
